During the expansion process of the MECO GmbH factory in Waldershof, a milling machine had to be relocated. The machine of Hamuel Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG has a total weight of 65 tons.

A new machine foundation was necessary. The low deformation limits were made for the machine foundation in order to ensure a precise manufacturing process.

This permissible deformation values had to be maintained while the machine operates at a high speed and while the workpiece moves along the workbench.

By using a Finite Element soil-structure interation analysis, the size of the foundation and the reinforcing steel arrangement were determined. The engineer was able to calculate the expected deformation, stresses and settlement of the foundation with confidence using the SSI model.

Additional calculations showed that the dynamic effects are not significant and do not affect the operation of the machine.
